Development of Forgotten History: A Survival-Horror Game on Bicolano Folk Beliefs and Mythological Beings

Bicol folk belief is recorded in ethnographic fieldwork and regional oral literature, yet recent studies report misunderstandings of intangible cultural heritage among Filipino college students and describe Bikol folkways that are fading from practice. Philippine game-based learning research has addressed school subjects and national culture broadly, while commercial Filipino horror games use folk creatures without instructional aims or structured evaluation. This study develops Forgotten History, a single-player survival-horror game on the Roblox platform in which documented Bicolano folk beliefs operate as game mechanics: each threat can be countered only by the practice of its cited source records. The study employs a descriptive-developmental design and the Game Development Life Cycle. A source-traceable content inventory will be validated by three folklore or Philippine studies experts using the Index of Item-Objective Congruence, first against its sources and again as represented in the game. The build will be calibrated to Roblox's Moderate content maturity label, which standard accounts aged 16 and above can access. Five IT experts and at least 50 senior high school and college students aged 16 to 21 will evaluate the system against four ISO/IEC 25010:2023 characteristics on a five-point Likert scale, analyzed by weighted mean. Expected outputs are a validated content inventory, a playable evaluation build, and quality ratings that establish readiness for a subsequent learning-outcome study.
