Development of an API-Integrated Mobile Application for Automated Academic Standing and Scholarship Eligibility System

The manual evaluation of grades and scholarship eligibility of Systems Plus College Foundation (SPCF) students lead to operational delays, human error, and untimely communication. Therefore, a better technological solution needs to be developed. The objective of this research is to propose an Automated Academic Standing and Scholarship Eligibility System through the development of an API-Integrated Mobile Application. The proposed mobile application will connect with the SPCF student portal using authorized, read-only API to get the student academic records such as student numbers, subject codes, units, and grades from the existing database without changing it. Using a rule-based evaluation engine configured by school administrators, the application will automatically calculate General Weighted Averages (GWAs), determine academic standing, deficiencies, honors, and scholarship eligibility. Using descriptive-developmental research design with quantitative approach and applying Agile-Scrum methodology, the system will be developed and tested with regards to accuracy, integration, function, and performance criteria. The proposed application will finally be tested according to the ISO/IEC 25010 software quality model considering functional suitability, performance efficiency, and usability criteria. It is expected that the proposed system will enable SPCF students to keep track of their academic standing in a systematic manner, and reduce manual efforts of administrators significantly.
