Abstract

The process of learning Python programming poses challenges for many students when it comes to program logic, error detection, debugging, and problem-solving. Even though there exist some AI-assisted coding tools like ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot, which can help students write code, they do not pay enough attention to the process of learning and developing skills for independent problem-solving. Thus, the purpose of this study is to create an AI-assisted coding tool for students enrolled in the Python Programming course. This tool will be able to provide code suggestions, detect programming errors, debug code and give explanations and personalized feedback according to the needs of the course. The research methodology used in the study will include a descriptive-developmental research design with a quantitative approach. The development of the tool will use Agile methodology based on requirements obtained from the course syllabus, common mistakes of novice programmers and consultation with the course instructor. The tool will be tested by unit, integration and user acceptance tests using prepared test cases and expert evaluation based on ISO/IEC 25010. It is expected that the tool will be able to provide reliable assistance with coding, detect and explain programming errors and help students learn programming concepts and debug code. The tool could also become an additional technological tool to teach Python programming for instructors.
